Magnus engineers move to INTERNATIONAL RAIL CONSULTANCY Interfleet

Highly-experienced chartered mechanical engineer Magnus Conn has joined the industry-leading Business Consulting team at Interfleet Technology.

Magnus, who began his career as a British Rail apprentice in 1988, has been appointed Principal Consultant at the consultancy, which has UK offices in Derby and London, and has forged a worldwide reputation for providing its customers with innovative solutions from staff who combine technical and commercial expertise with industry experience.

With his wide involvement in project management, particularly of multi-million-pound schemes related to railway vehicles, Magnus also brings with him an understanding of the needs of rail operators.

At GNER, where he became the youngest Chief Engineer on the East Coast, he had direct responsibility for all aspects of a £56million engineering and maintenance budget across the entire fleet, with his role also to oversee the company's Rail Safety Case.

 Magnus commented:

'I started my career with British Rail, so a move to Interfleet, which has its origins within British Rail, seemed a natural career progression. My most recent role was to project manage the introduction of the Leeds Half Hourly and the delivery of the £42m HST continued service operation initiatives for GNER.

'The Leeds project utilised my project management skills in that it involved the procurement, overhaul and introduction of additional trains sets to supplement GNER's existing fleet. The HST scheme enabled me to use my engineering background but also included the management and refreshment of rolling stock.”

Magnus will draw on his extensive knowledge and experience of rail operations and business to provide strategic consultancy to clients, to help them achieve maximum impact from rail investment programmes and improve their business performance.
