Central Car Auctions Takes Centre Stage

Buying used cars can be a fraught experience for would-be customers, who worry about being defrauded or buying a vehicle that turns out to be in poor condition or just plain wrong. The top priority for dealers and individual sellers is naturally attracting potential customers, as many as possible, who are genuinely interested in making a purchase. A place where both parties can come together and have their own particular concerns addressed is the ideal and it is for this reason that the Institute of Transport Management has awarded Central Car Auctions the title of “Best UK Remarketing Company 2012”.

The history of the Glasgow-based Central Car Auctions goes back several decades. In 1960, founder John Miller worked at the Morrison McLeary auction house in Sauchiehall Street, where he got a taste for auctioneering. In 1963,  he set up his own car auction company, Wm Mitchell & Sons in Glasgow's Gallowgate area, where he operated until his untimely death in 1965. At this time, his widow went into partnership with Alex Beith to form Central Car Auctions.

John's son and current chairman Jonathan Miller joined the company in 1967 at the age of just 15. Over the next 30 years, Jonathan developed and expanded the business and in 2002, bought an 8.9 acre site just off the M8 at Baillieston, creating in the process what is now the country's leading car auction facilities.

Nowadays, day to day management of Central Car Auctions is in the capable hands of Jason Miller, the third generation of the Miller family to occupy the Managing Director's seat. With his management team, together they deliver a customer focussed and innovative organisation that ensures more than 70,000 vehicles annually go under the famous Central Car Auctions hammer.

Central Car Auction is Scotland's largest indoor car auction and offers would-be buyers the best of both worlds. On its website www.centralcarauctions.com, customers can view the cars that are going to be auctioned, either by browsing or by applying a series of relevant filters. Central Car Auction truly aims to offer a vehicle for every customer – it auctions over 1,400 cars every week, and has hundreds on offer for under £3,000.

If you find a car that interests you, you simply head along to one of the thrice-weekly auctions. There you will find an information card on the windscreen of every car that is for sale at the auction. This holds a wealth of information, from MOT expiry date to a mileage reading. If you are still interested, then you bid and (hopefully) win!

Central Car Auctions is also an attractive destination for sellers. It offers an impartial valuation of the vehicle online, which is free of charge and completed in just ten minutes. If you do decide to list with the company, then you enjoy the benefits of no advertising costs, haggling, bounced cheques or timewasters – you just need to pay Central Car Auctions a reasonable fee.

Customers attest to Central Car Auctions ease of use, friendliness and efficiency, citing range of choice, fair prices and helpful staff as reasons why they would return.

Announcing the award to Central Car Auctions, the ITM said:

The Institute is delighted to present Central Car Auctions with the award of ‘Best UK Remarketing Company 2012’. The title is richly deserved.”

Reacting to the award, MD Jason Miller said:

"The Directors, management team and all staff are absolutely delighted to receive the ITM’s notification and to be awarded ‘Best UK Remarketing Company 2012’. As an independent and single site organisation, this is a great honour and reflects the considerable effort and resource that we have applied to the company in recent times to ensure we continuously provide the highest level of service to our franchised dealership, independent trader and private customers. This award is therefore accepted for both our staff and customers alike. Our sincere thanks to the Institute of Transport Management for this recognition.”
